The Nusa Dua Settling Ponds are only a short drive from the Lodge and are known for a variety of water birds. They are best visited very early in the morning or late in the evening. For the dawn tour, one commences by rising at 05.30 and after a cup of tea or coffee going by vehicle to the ponds. Your bird guide will either be Mrs Nyoman Martini or Mrs Kadek Purnaningish, both staff members of the Lodge and registered guides with Ecolodges Indonesia. At least 20 – 25 species of birds (including Egrets, Herons, Kingfishers, Ducks and Water Hens) will be seen. Walk and enjoy around for 1 – 2 hours and drive back to the Lodge for breakfast.
After breakfast, you will travel to Tabanan for a visit Tabanan Butterfly Park arriving at around 1100. This Park shows many species of Indonesian Butterflies and is a beautiful peaceful place. Many of the species in Meryl Wilson’s book “101 Butterflies of Lowland Indonesia” are seen here.
Lunch will be in a restaurant overlooking spectacular rice fields then you will visit two temples; the small but beautiful Jatiluwih Temple near the Park and then on to Tanah Lot Temple for a spectacular sunset. Tanah Lot is one of the six principal temples of Bali and is spiritually very significant in Balinese culture.
